Vegetable and Grain Cultivation
Production of corn, vegetables, onions
During the dry season, various vegetables are cultivated on the harvested rice fields in Dano. These include corn, onions and beans but also some grain and sorghum. At present, the area under cultivation for grain and vegetables amounts to about 35 hectares. Generally, the farmers harvest once or twice during the dry season depending on the amount of water remaining in reservoirs.
The aim is to reach a sustainable improvement in the quality and quantity of yields. In order to achieve stable market prices, the right storage conditions have to be ensured. The improvement of the local storage conditions is also part of the on-going tasks of the Dreyer Foundation. Furthermore, it is also important to optimise sales and distribution on local and regional markets.
